Planning Appeal against refusal of permission for 32 houses at Western House, Howton Road

by Jackie Hook on 7 November, 2018

The landowner at Western House is appealing against the refusal decision made by Teignbridge District Council for 32 houses on land they own at Howton Road. I spoke against the approval of this application on both the occasions it came to Planning Committee at Teignbridge and thankfully convinced a majority of Councillors to vote against it. My grounds were predominantly related to the lack of capacity of Howton Rd to deal with the traffic generated. Howton Rd was always intended as part of the Masterplan for Houghton Barton to be a quiet lightly trafficked cycle/pedestrian route. A small site was allocated in the Local Plan on Howton Rd, but it was originally intended that access would be through Hele Park, and informally agreed that it would be for a maximum of 10 houses.
